Kid’s Castle Educational Philosophy
Play-Based Learning
The learning that occurs here at Kid’s Castle involves caring, educated and experienced teachers and staff members modeling appropriate skills, concepts and behaviors through intentional planning, observation and evaluation using play-based learning centers. It is during that time that children can be observed in their natural learning state and authentic assessment can be made. By playing with the children and interacting with other staff and the parents, our teachers demonstrate positive, appropriate communication and behavior. Whether it is assisting a child washing their hands, manipulating pieces to a puzzle or simply greeting them as they arrive at school, children are learning skills necessary to becoming independent thinkers and problem solvers. Kid’s Castle’s curriculum is aligned with Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. Our teachers set developmental goals, make observations and complete evaluations for each individual child. Portfolios are used to showcase each child’s abilities and strengths. These are kept in the child’s classroom and shared with parents during parent/teacher conferences in November and May.
